NEWBURGH, Ind. (AP) — Alcoa Inc. plans to lay off up to 145 workers from a southern Indiana factory by the end of March.
Company officials say the layoffs from the factory near Newburgh are in response to declining demand for the aluminum sheets it produces, which are used in products such as food and beverage cans.
Alcoa Warrick Operations spokesman Jim Beck says it will try to reduce the number of layoffs by offering early retirement packages.
About 2,100 people work at Alcoa's aluminum smelting and fabricating facility along the Ohio River about 10 miles east of Evansville.
