You'd think that, around Christmastime, we'd get a little reprieve from celebrity drama. But that's not so! I may have taken a break from the blog, but celebrities did not take a break from some major drama! Here's what's been happening:

  • First and foremost, and probably the most important and tragic bit of celebrity news: Actress Brittany Murphy, 32, died December 20. According to reports, Murphy was ill in the 7-10 days before her death with shortness of breath and stomach pain, and on the morning of Dec. 20 she went into the bathroom, began vomiting, took a shower, suffered a massive heart attack and died. TMZ reports there were many prescription drugs in the house prescribed to Murphy, her husband, her mother and other people, including Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and miscellaneous vitamins. Her death certificate was released, but the cause of death was listed as "deferred" pending the outcome of toxicology tests. She was laid to rest at twilight on Christmas Eve at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in L.A.
  • More big celebrity news: Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested Christmas morning in Aspen, Colo., and charged with second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief. Sheen allegedly attacked wife Brooke Mueller. Mueller said that Sheen threatened to kill her after she asked for a divorce during their fight, pinned her to the bed, put a knife to her throat and told her "You better be in fear. If you tell anybody, I'll kill you." and "Your mother's money means nothing. I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done and they won't leave any trace." Sheen told police he had a knife, but didn't threaten Mueller with it, but admitted to breaking two pairs of Mueller's eyeglasses. Sources close to the couple say that the couple is going to go through counseling, but divorce is a real possibility. But, never fear, fans of "Two and a Half Men:" Sheen will be back for the show's return on Jan. 4. He will have to go back to Colorado for a court appearance on Feb. 8, however.
  • A major celebrity couple is no more. Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, who have been together for 23 years, announced just before Christmas that they had split over the summer. The pair began dating in 1988, on the set of "Bull Durham," and have been one of Hollywood's most steadfast couples for over two decades. No one has released a reason for the split, and Sarandon, 63, has denied that she was or is now involved with 31-year-old business partner Jonathan Bricklin, who owns a table tennis bar in New York.
  • Recently divorced dad of eight Jon Gosselin is back in the news. (Are you surprised?) On Sunday, Gosselin got back to his New York City apartment after spending Christmas with his kids and found that his place had been burglarized and vandalized. His stuff was slashed with a butcher knife, and a note was speared onto his bedroom dresser with the knife. Gosselin's lawyer said in a statement: “Jon’s television, CD player, coffee maker, a Nintendo Wii game, dishes, pots and pans were burglarized from his apartment, and Jon’s shoes, shirts, luggage, bed, curtain, rugs and other furnishings in the apartment were slashed, most likely by the same butcher knife that affixed the note to his dresser. Sadly, along with the trashing of Jon’s apartment, a Ming vase, believed to be over 100 years old that was a family heirloom, was smashed to pieces.” Many, including Gosselin's lawyer, suspect ex-girlfriend Hailey Glassman. In fact, her lawyer told RadarOnline that Glassman did, indeed, take the television and other things that belonged to her because she was moving out. However, the lawyer denies Glassman left the note on the dresser with the butcher knife, though he admits she did leave a note. Then, Glassman's lawyer said that the whole thing is a publicity stunt on Gosselin's part. Then Glassman accused Gosselin of attacking her by pushing her against a wall and verbally abusing her after he saw a photo of her kissing "Celebrity Boxing" promotor Damon Feldman. Gosselin's lawyer denies the attack. When will the madness end? Probably only when Jon Gosselin falls of the face of the earth, I think!
  • Sorry, so-called Team Tay-Tay followers - pop singer Taylor Swift and "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner are kaput. Despite how adorable it is for two people named Taylor to be dating each other, the pair were never very serious to begin with, a source says. They decided it made more sense to stay friends. Which, if you look at the track record of celebrity couples (especially high-profile teen couples), does make a LOT of sense. Are you other celebrities paying attention to this????
  • Here's one to watch: there are reports swirling that musician Katy Perry and actor/comedian Russell Brand are getting married. No particularly credible sources out there yet ... but we do know that they went on a presumably romantic trip to India just after Christmas, and went sledding just before Christmas. All together now - "Awwwwwww!"

That's all for this time! What do you think of the celebrity news of the moment?
