Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is offering an opportunity to visit Rome, Italy, to anyone from the campus or community at- large. Rome, Italy: Off the Beaten Path, is a 14-day study tour sponsored by the IPFW Interior Design program. Travel for pleasure or gain three college credits, July 12-24, 2010. The cost for noncredit travelers is $3,580, which includes airfare, lodging on the beautiful Aventine Hill, all travel and entrance fees, most meals, and basic medical insurance. The cost for credit students is $3,200 plus tuition. Deposit is due by Feb. 1, 2010. Class size is limited.

Explore the tombs of Emperors, drink from a Baroque fountain, or wander the vast spaces of ancient Roman baths. Course highlights include tours of the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basilica, Baroque gardens, Medieval churches, and urban piazzas. Tours outside Rome include a visit to the excavations of Ostia Antica and the gardens of Villa d'Este in Tivoli.

Traveling through IPFW-sponsored study tours is a great way to get more for your travel dollar. The instructors provide personal attention throughout the trip along with specialized knowledge in art and architecture, history, interior design, and archaeology. Past students have picnicked in the Roman Forum, explored the excavations under St. Peter's Basilica, watched a cavalry parade in the ancient Circus Maximus, and read a Roman play in the ruins of an ancient theatre. The trip is for adventurers of all ages. Travelers in previous years have ranged in age from 15 to 70.

There will be a public information session on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 4:30 p.m. in Cole Commons, which is located at the IPFW Student Housing on the Waterfield Campus.

Tour leader and instructor Matthew Kubik, associate professor of interior design at IPFW, is leading his eighteenth Rome travel course through the IPFW Division of Continuing Studies.
