By Jeff Isaac and Phil Konstantin Published by The Lawyer in Blue Jeans, $16.95 For anyone who’s been watching TV lately, or just listening to the radio, be it AM or FM, you probably are very much aware that folks across the country right now aren’t all that happy with government and the laws that legislators think up. People are angry. And the message they’re sending out is that they’re tired of silly laws, unfair laws and laws that just don’t make sense. What’s funny really funny, though, is it’s not news that legislators not only can think up laws that seem stupid, but they pass them as well. Knowing this, it might be refreshing to know that a book’s been published that not only lists some of those laws, but leaves you laughing in the wake. The Wacky World of Laws is a wonderful compendium of wacky laws by state and country. And the funny thing about it is that these laws are still on the books, which makes this fun humor book a nonfiction one, to boot. Did you know that it’s illegal to sing in a public place while wearing a bathing suit in Florida? Or that in Indiana you no longer have any rights to your breath once it leaves your mouth? Or that passing a horse on a street with an automobile in Indiana is illegal? Or, in nearby Michigan, did you know it’s illegal for husbands and wives to kiss on Sunday? Or that in Cleveland, Ohio, it’s illegal to sit on someone’s lap while driving a car? These and dozens and dozens of other wacky laws that are still on the books are all part of this great and hilarious book. Need a good reason to laugh at government in general? Buy the book. This one rates 5 stars.
