The value of all commercial construction permits issued in the first quarter of 2009 was down by more than half from the first quarter of last year.
A total of $22.3 million in commercial permits — new construction, remodelings, additions, etc. — was issued, compared with $46.6 million in 2008, a decline of 52 percent, according to figures from the Allen County Building Department.
The value of all residential permits issued was off, too, but by far less. Residential permits issued in the first quarter of this year totaled nearly $25 million, compared with about $28.2 million in the year-ago period, a declineof 11.8 percent.
The residential totals included 78 new home permits in the first quarter of 2009, compared with 104 in the first quarter of 2008.
The total value of all construction permits, commercial and residential, totaled $47.2 million in first-quarter 2009, down 36.8 percent from $74.8 million in first-quarter 2008.

S & V Liquors has selected Shawnee Construction & Engineering as the general contractor for its newest store, near Illinois and Scott roads. The 8,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in late June and will be the local chain’s eighth store.
