Teams from five northeast Indiana high schools took part in the 2009 Science Olympiad held at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Saturday, Feb. 7. Students from all five teams won medals in 23 different science, engineering, and technology events.
The first place team, from Columbia City High School, and the second place team, from Manchester High School, qualified to take part in the Indiana State Science Olympiad tournament, Saturday, March 28, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
The third place team, from Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, will take part in a wild card tournament at Ivy Tech in Lafayette on Saturday, March 14, for a chance to advance to the state competition.
Science Olympiad coordinator Scott Armstrong was very pleased with the event. “For this being our first year to host the competition, I think things went very well. I know we’re looking forward to next year already and hope to have more schools involved.”
