It's a trap

SHIPSHEWANA — Fifteen years of trapping animals has taught Todd Lang that trapping is an effective and humane way of catching animals. Not everyone shares the Indiana Conservation Officer’s opinion though. “There are a lot of misconceptions with the use of traps and one of... more...

Prayers were needed after tragedy struck PDF Print E-mail

The words “unspeakable” and “unthinkable” were often attached to the horrible tragedy that took place last week when Amanda Musser and Brandon Replogle lost their lives in wrecks while on their way to school.

If only those words were true.

Because we had to talk about it. And we couldn’t help but think about them.

Brandon and Amanda were called “two of our best” by their principal Nate Lowe, who has served admirably as the head of the West Noble family in this time of crisis.

Both of these young people were role models and leaders in the school and their churches. Both they and their families displayed a deep, unabiding faith in God, and we are sure that strong resolve has helped the families and friends of Amanda and Brandon cope with this “unspeakable” tragedy.

The hurt has been felt throughout the community. Tears have been shed at churches, schools, restaurants and other places where people gathered to discuss the terrible tragedy these families are experiencing.

No one will ever be able to explain to me why such horrible things happen to good people.

It’s not fate. I don’t believe that. There’s no such thing as fate. Not in the sense, anyway, that would claim the lives of two fine young people.

We drive our cars and trucks 50 and 60 miles an hour, inches away from each other, and of course accidents are going to happen. There’s no way to avoid them but there are things we can do evade them. But that’s the main point, here, of course.

It’s just a statistical impossibility to figure out how two students out of a population of 700 kids would meet the same deadly fate on the same day in about the same time frame.

These were two of the best West Noble had to offer. Active and involved in everything. Caring and sharing teenagers who had tons of friends, loving families and the world at their doorsteps.

For those people, especially their friends, who want to keep alive the memories of Brandon and Amanda, heed the words of their principal, Mr. Lowe: Become involved and active in the things they believed in, such as church mission projects; community theater; Relay for Life and many others.

Please ask for God’s blessing for their families.
