DENVER, Colo. — The East Noble FFA Livestock Judging Team, representing Indiana, was awarded the Reserve National Championship title at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo., in January.

The Noble County team qualified for the competition after being the second place team in the FFA division at the State Livestock Judging contest held at Purdue University. The winning team was comprised of four members, Kyle Dice, Cory Riecke, Nick Riecke and Cody Riecke. The team is coached by Jackie Bell and Jeff Riecke of Avilla.

Nearly 600 youths competed in 15 national contests. Thirty states and Alberta, Canada were represented at this year’s Western National Roundup. Some of the contests include Horse & Livestock Judging, Hippology, Public Speaking, Family Consumer Science Presentations, and Meats Judging. Youth attending the event have the opportunity to showcase their abilities, make life long memories, and meet fellow 4-H and FFA members from across the country.

Kyle Dice was the teams high placing individual being second overall, while also being second in the reasons portion of the contest. Nick Riecke placed fourth as an individual, Cory Riecke was 19th, and Cody Riecke finished 30th overall. The Noble County team was also second place in the reasons portion of the contest.

The East Noble FFA Team prepared for the National Western by competing in the Premier Stockman Livestock Judging Contest and Hoosier Beef Congress. The team placed third at the Premier Stockman, which is hosted

by Clinton Central and adviser Roger Carr. Teams from across the country complete at the Stockman due to the high quality of the contest.

The East Noble Team was also the high team overall at the Hoosier Beef Congress.

Livestock Judging provides young people the opportunity to learn the skills of livestock evaluation. The educational training and experience that young people gain from participating on the judging team prepares

them to be future leaders of the agriculture and livestock industries.
